The Presidential Commission on Deaths and Disappearances has released a re-enactment video of the missing journalist, Ahmed Rilwan’s abduction.
Rilwan was last seen in the early hours of August 8, 2014, at Hulhumale’ Ferry terminal, wearing a black shirt and pants with a backpack. Rilwan was abducted in August 2014 outside his apartment in a reclaimed suburb, Hulhumale’.
The video publicized by the Commission today traces Rilwan’s last known movements based on the latest investigative information. The video includes snippets of CCTV footage that show Rilwan’s activities on the night of his disappearance and re-enactments of Rilwan being grabbed and forced into a car. It also showed actual CCTV footage of the movements of his suspected abductors who were shadowing him.
The video showed Rilwan heading to Hulhumale’ Ferry Terminal in Male’ city after attending a ‘Baibala’ match and getting off the ferry at Hulhumale’ at around 01:30 am. He is then seen walking his way to his apartment situated at Hulhumale’ flat no. 21. It is estimated that he would likely reach the flat at around 01:45 am.
When he reached his Flat, he was forced at knifepoint into a red car waiting near his flat. During this altercation, a knife that was used to threaten him was dropped to the road. The Commission noted that they are seeking information regarding this knife.
At the end of the video, the Commission noted that they believe that there are people who have information regarding the disappearance of Rilwan on August 8, 2014. The Commission implored those with information to come forward and offered a reward of MVR 500,000 for anyone who gave credible information which could prove the case in court.
