The Maldives Police Service has begun monitoring people traveling to and from N. Manadhoo after an elderly woman’s body was discovered on Friday evening. Naeema Mossa, 62, Annaarumaage, N. Manadhoo was found dead inside her room after officers forced down the door.
The Police have declared suspicions surrounding her death, and Manadhoo Council President Sabeeh Abdul Rahman stated that there were many red flags surrounding the incident. However, he did not provide any specific details. Sabeeh explained that Naeema was a sweeper employed by the Manadhoo Council to clean the island. He mentioned that it had been two days since she had reported to work or contacted anyone.”She did not report to work yesterday. Her colleagues went to her home and knocked on the door, but there was no response. It was discovered that she had not been in contact with her family when they were contacted after she failed to report to work today as well. Then the family reported to the police,” he said.
Police have instructed those traveling to and from the island to report to them. The council has made a public announcement instructing people against leaving or entering the island without informing relevant authorities as the investigation into Naeema’s death continues. The case is under investigation by Police’s Serious and Organized Crime Department.
Unfortunately, this is not an isolated event. There have been several murder cases in the Maldives in the recent years. The Maldives Police Service has pledged to investigate these cases thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice. While it is important for law enforcement to thoroughly investigate these cases and bring those responsible to justice, it is also crucial to address the underlying issues that may be contributing to the rise of violent crime in the Maldives. The government and law enforcement agencies must take action to prevent violent crime and ensure the safety and security of all citizens and visitors.
