In a tragic case from Fuvahmulah City, Maldives, a 52-year-old Maldivian man has been sentenced to 32 years, one month, and 27 days in prison for the sexual abuse of his young stepdaughter. The abuse lasted over a year, spanning from May 2019 to July 2020.

Arrest and Charges

  • The man was arrested in July 2020, shortly after the abuse came to light.
  • In August 2020, the Prosecutor General’s Office filed four charges against him:
    • Three charges under the Special Provisions Act on Child Sex Offenders.
