In a heartbreaking development from the Maldivian capital, the body of a 13-year-old boy—found murdered and stuffed inside a suitcase last June—was buried today following the completion of his autopsy. His funeral took place after the Maghrib prayer.
The victim’s body was sent to Trivandrum, India, for a postmortem examination on July 5 and was returned to the Maldives once the autopsy was finalized. However, the Police are still awaiting the detailed examination report.
In connection with the case, the Police have arrested two individuals—a 17-year-old and a 27-year-old Maldivian male. At their remand hearing on June 22, the court ordered that the 27-year-old be held in jail pending trial, while the 17-year-old was remanded for 15 days. Additional detainees were released due to insufficient evidence.
This tragic case remains under active investigation as authorities work to gather further forensic and testimonial evidence.
