Fictional scenario: Trace materials are recovered after a disputed workshop contact. The table provides all observed measurements and classifications; conclusions must account for possible prior exposure and contamination. This is not casework data.

G1

Shoe-sole glass

Refractive index 1.5202 ± 0.0002; no physical fit tested.

G2

Window reference glass

Refractive index 1.5201 ± 0.0002.

P1 / P2

Questioned / reference paint

Both show three visually similar layers; no proven physical fit.

F1 / F2

Questioned / reference fibers

Both blue polyester with comparable microscopic appearance.

Comparison note: The refractive-index values differ by 0.0001. Separate ±0.0002 measurement uncertainties were stipulated for the exercise. For question 9 only, likelihoods are fictional teaching values, not outputs of trace-evidence statistics.
