High Court upholds 10-yr sentence for child molester

Whats the news: Maldivian High Court has upheld the ten-year prison sentence by the Hithadhoo Magistrate Court against Child molester, Hassan Ameen, (S. Hithadhoo, Huraa) who was convicted for carrying out a sexual act with a 14-year-old girl on 8 August 2015 while staying at the same house as the victim.

Appeal: Following his conviction by the Hithadhoo Court, Ameen’s defense appealed at the High Court claiming that the Magistrate Court made the ruling in violation of the legal and constitutional regulations.

High Court’s decision: The High Court while dismissing his plea against conviction said that there is no corrections to be made to the original decision.
